This week's couple: Ahoy, matey!
While sharing burgers and beers at Union Square’s Pop pub, Bryan, a 31-year-old software engineer, and Michelle, a 27-year-old publicist, found themselves talking like seafaring pirates. So, did Bryan’s buccaneer ways impress Michelle enough to score her number? Or, did she tell him to walk the plank at the end of the night?
He said:
When Michelle walked in, I thought she was definitely cute. She has great eyes and a nice smile. We got along great from the start and any apprehension faded immediately. To be honest, I can’t even remember what we talked about, although I know at one point we broke into pirate talk . . .
It was one of those evenings where we talked about nothing for hours. Stories just came very easily. We traded numbers before saying goodnight. I’m not totally sure about the chemistry because it’s impossible to judge in such a high-pressure situation, but I think I’d like to meet up with her again.
She said:
My first impression of Bryan was that he was cute, although a little more clean-cut than I normally go for. I was relieved that our conversation flowed pretty easily. It turns out that we share a ton of common interests, including our love for “How I Met Your Mother” and traveling. Bryan had great stories about his adventures in Serbia and Asia.
The only conversation snag was his love of pirates. It was very strange. All of a sudden he mentioned that he liked pirates because they get to say “Yarrr” and carry a sword. I’m still scratching my head about how we got on the subject.
Around 11 p.m. we decided to call it a night. Bryan walked me out and before hopping in a cab we exchanged numbers. I had a great time, but I think we’re better suited as friends.
